Streets Market sits at the corner of P and 27th Streets NW, in a red-brick building that spent years as a 7-Eleven before the chain moved in and turned it into something the neighborhood had not had within walking distance: a real grocery. The store occupies the ground floor, with produce stacked near the entrance so that it is the first thing you see when you push through the door. The block is residential, one long stretch of Georgetown town houses running east toward Rose Park, and the store fits the scale of the street in a way that a big supermarket never could.

Shin Myong Na founded Streets Market in Washington in 2014, starting with a single location on 14th Street NW. The idea was specific: a neighborhood grocery that sits between the corner store and the full-scale supermarket, stocked with hard-to-find international ingredients and small local producers as well as everything you might otherwise drive twenty minutes to find. Na grew the company steadily, eventually acquiring Snider’s Super Foods in Silver Spring and expanding to more than a dozen locations across the District, Maryland, and Virginia. The Georgetown store, which opened in April 2023, was the company’s seventh DC location and its first in Georgetown proper.

Before the store opened, Streets Market held a community meeting and asked residents what they wanted stocked. That kind of advance consultation is unusual, and it paid off: the shelves reflect actual requests rather than a generic urban-grocery template. The fresh produce section is strong for a store this size. The meat and seafood counters cover the basics. A kitchen on the premises turns out grab-and-go prepared meals daily, ranging from salads and grain bowls to hot entrees, all made in-house. International ingredients occupy a dedicated section, with products that are genuinely difficult to find at a conventional chain. Everyday staples fill in the rest.

The Streets Club loyalty program tailors deals to the store’s membership rather than broadcasting the same promotions everywhere. It is free to join and worth doing for anyone who shops here with any regularity. The range of products covers enough ground that a full week’s worth of groceries is achievable without a second stop, though the store’s real utility is as a daily-use market for the households within a few blocks.

The store is open every day from 8am to 10pm, which matters more than it might sound. This stretch of P Street is quiet after dark, and 10pm closing means Streets Market catches the after-dinner run for a forgotten ingredient or the late-arriving household that skipped lunch. Rose Park is a few steps south, between P and O Streets at 26th and 27th, making the store a natural stop on the way in or out of the park. Street parking on P Street is tight throughout Georgetown and especially so on weekend afternoons. If you are driving, a garage on Wisconsin Avenue or in the M Street corridor is the more practical approach. For a first visit, the prepared meals are the quickest way to understand what makes this store different from the options further up the hill.
